Join Mary Nelle & Jack Figart and Virginia & Jerry Brewer
as we sail aboard the Diamond Princess from Los Angeles to Hawaii on
November 18, 2007, returning on December 3. We had 5 days at sea chasing sunsets
on the way to Hawaii and 5 more days at sea on our return. Our
ports of call and principle activities were:
- Hilo, on the big island of Hawaii. Here we explored Kilauea, the world's most active volcano.
- Kona, also on the big island of Hawaii, where we boarded the Atlantis Submarine for an under sea adventure.
- Honolulu, on the island of Oahu. The Brewers toured the Arizona Memorial at
Pearl Harbor while the Figarts (who had toured the memorial on a previous visit)
rented a car and did a self guided tour of the island.
- Nawiliwili, on the island of Kauai. We visited a tropical garden where we
feasted on roast pig at a luaua while musicians and hula dancers performed on stage.
We also took part in a ceremony to renew our wedding vows (guess the old ones
were starting to wear out).
- Lahaina, on the island of Maui, where we visited the Maui Ocean Center and a tropical
plantation.
- Ensenada, Mexico, where we caught a tour bus to
"la Bufadora", a natural blow hole on the Pacific coast about 25 minutes south of the city.
- Los Angeles, California, where we disembarked and caught our flight home.
We had a wonderful time and the scenery was awesome! However, we would've gladly
traded some of our sea days for more time in the islands.
